The Bond Has Passed. Now What?
On November 6, voters in Thompson School District approved a bond measure in the amount of $149 million. Among other priorities, the funding will be used to complete a list of facility projects throughout the district, as well as construct a new K-8 school in the Thompson River Ranch subdivision.
Following the certification of election results by county clerks, district staff immediately began the extensive process of preparing for the sale of bonds within the market. This process included a rating agency presentation, as well as the completion of a number of legal and financial documents. The district bonds were sold in January 2019.
Now that the bonds have been sold, the district is moving forward to plan and complete the identified projects. Work undertaken so far has included the following:
-Creation of the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee. This group, which is comprised of citizen representation from throughout the community, will provide independent review of the projects that comprise the Bond program. More information on the committee can be found by clicking the tab at the top of this web page.
-Creation of Design Advisory Groups. Two groups have been created so far to assist the district in key planning projects - one for the new Pre-K - 8th grade school project and one for the development of the new Career and Technical Education, Ferguson High School and Early Childhood Center projects. Membership in the groups includes community members, students and staff members.
-School and building access control upgrades to improve safety at district campuses
-Door hardware upgrades to comply with state law
-Video surveillance upgrades throughout the district
-Renovation work on several school playgrounds
-Beginning this summer, TSD will begin the repair and replacement of roofs that are in desperate need of attention at several sites.
-Planning work with architectural staff for the new Pre-K-8 school
Additional information regarding bond projects will be posted as they begin to come on-line. Again, thank you for your dedication to Thompson School District and the 16,000-plus students that we serve. Your support is greatly appreciated!
